WE HAVE HOSTING AND A DOMAIN!

December 9, 2008 at 2:59 am (After Effects)

Alrighty, I know that its only been up for 2 weeks, but I just got my domain, and hosting, and we are expanding our tutorials, to ANY AND EVERYTHING…. yes oh yes.

http://www.VisualFXTuts.com

that is our new domain name and where all of the new posts will be. You will also see we will be posting all kinds of different VFX tutorials as well, mainly AE ones from me, but as we grow, we hope to get more contributers as well.

I am going to get this URL forwarded to visualfxtuts.com but until then you are just going to have to click the link. If anyone knows how to do free domain fowarding from wordpress to an external server… please let me know!

Thanks everyone and see you at the new site!

New Idea… tell me if you like it…

December 5, 2008 at 5:41 pm (After Effects, Compositing, Keying, Motion Graphics, Motion Tracking, Updates, Visual FX) (, , , , , , , )

So I have heard from a few people about expanding this site to be more than JUST AE tutorials.  Well, I am all for that… but before I can do that, I would like to recruit Contributers.  So if you feel like you would like to contribute posts to the website, just send me an email to welshcs@gmail.com and I can make a note of it.  Also in your email include what tutorials you are wanting to contribute, as well as the genre (compositing, 3D, Motion Graphics), and also what programs YOU yourself dabble in.

It is gonna be a few weeks before I am gonna have the rest of the site up and running, partly because I have to save up for server hosting space.  If anyone knows of cheap domain sales and cheap hosting… PLEASE let me know, because I think this is going to be a huge asset to the Visual Effects Community.

Also… I would like to say… 2000 views in less than 2 weeks? Damn… I am excited for what is to come.  And you guys are gonna be a part of it.

Until next time,
Topher.

Some New Tutorials

November 26, 2008 at 12:59 am (After Effects)

Hey I found some more tutorials when I was searching through the VCP Forum Free Tutorials archives…

Here is a link to the tutorials page on video-fx-universe.com.  I don’t know how good these videos are because you actually have to download the video and the .zip files to even see the tutorials, but you can check it out anyways LINK HERE

Lynda.com has a lot of training that, unfortunately you have to pay for, but if you can get your school to spring for a year membership or something it would be quite worth the while.  They have some stuff that is complementary though, if you look through they give you like a teaser lesson in each series.  Here are all the After Effects from 7.0 to CS4 categories

AE (all versions) http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modListing.asp?pid=331
AE 7.0 http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modListing.asp?pid=333
AE CS3 http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modListing.asp?pid=332
AE CS4 http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modListing.asp?pid=395

Firechild Entertainment has some good tutorials, including a really cool one on Superman Opening Title text effect LINK HERE

Aurellia.net has a good collection of tutorials, and a slick looking website too I might add… LINK HERE.  They also have downloadable project files as well… which as wel all know helps A LOT.

Here is a site with only one tutorial, but I anticipate a lot more from them.  I have a good feeling about them… anyways the name of the site is Brix FX Production and their tutorials are located HERE

So this guy has some really cool AE tutorials on how to do effects seen in the TV Series “Smallville”.  He has some really good stuff.  This is a link to his youtube channel, because he doesn’t have a website, and all of his tutorials are hosted there anyways. LINK HERE

.

Here is another guy on Youtube that I found that produced a really good quality tutorial on how to do the Dumbledore/Voldemort wizard duel effect.  Very impressive.  Also he has a tutorial on how to make a Particle Lightsaber… which looks really awesome, especially for those close up shots it adds a good dramatic feel.  LINK HERE

.

Thats all for for now… let me know if you guys find some other good stuff…

.
I found a few more sites that have some good tutorials on them… first… Forging Fire Studio has some good resources for making some cool effects with the Trapcode plugins

.

.

.

Then, since this guys website sucks, I am including a link to his Vimeo here.  He has some really good resources for creating some cool motion graphics.

.

.

And lastly here is a link to XELER8R.  He has a ton of .pdf tutorials, and even though they are probably boring to read, and not as much fun as a video… they are really good to learn.

Heroes Flame Effect and others – Johnny A. on Vimeo

November 25, 2008 at 8:49 pm (After Effects, Compositing, Motion Tracking, Visual FX) (, , , , , , )

Here is a cool tutorial that looks really good, and is really simple.  It uses a peice of stock footage to create the flame effect that Claire’s mom can create in her hands like on the TV Series “Heroes”.  This tutorial shows how to create reactive lighting, motion track and composite the fire in correctly to produce a really quite impressive effect.

Here is a link to Johnny A. on vimeo.  He has another tutorial on how to make a plasma ball effect as well and I am sure that he will have more soon!

Ryan Weiber Tutorials

November 25, 2008 at 8:33 pm (After Effects, Visual FX) (, , , , , )

So if anyone is a Star Wars geek like me, they have seen Ryan VS Dorkman and RVD2.  Well this is the guy that makes all that… Ryan Weiber.  He is one of the masters behind the TV Series “Heroes” and also has worked on TONS of movies while working for Stargate Digital.  He has compiled a bunch of tutorials, from his younger days, but a lot of them are pretty good for basic fun effects that all of us like to do. Cloning, Lightsabers, Energy Balls… things like that… so take a look and send me some of the stuff that you make! http://www.ryan-w.com/ryan-w/tutorials.html
